The Daniel Fast is taken from the book of Daniel. The reason Daniel fasted was because of his devotion to God . Daniel records three times when he fasted , but he most likely did it more often. The first was recorded in Daniel 1. The food the King wanted him to eat was offered to idols and Daniel had consecrated himself to the Lord so he refrained from defiling his body. In Chapter 9 of Daniel we see the second recorded time he fasted. This time Daniel fasted becuase he was deeply concerned about the Nation of Israel being held captive. Chapter 10 writes of the third time Daniel fasted. He was concerned about a powerful dream he had received. The scriptures say he mourned for three weeks and ate no delicacies or meat. This three week fast (21 days) is the fast we will base our corporate fast upon.
Entering the Daniel Fast without a Spiritual purpose is like trying to drive a car without wheels. You may have a great time sitting in the car listening to music and looking out the windshield but when you get back out of that car you will find that you havent moved at all. Fasting can bring you into a deeper, more fruitful place with the Lord. Done with purpose and specific prayer focus, fasting will help you reach your destination- that sweet place with the Lord that brings clarity, renewed relationship with God and others, direction, healing, and answered prayers. If you want your life to be changed by the Spirit of the Lord, we encourage you to target specific areas that you feel you have bondages, infirmities, and hindrances. These things keep us at a distance from the Lord . At the end of the 21 days, may you look around and find that you have reached a new place in the Lord!
